Choosing the Right Rat Snap Trap

Open snap traps — the standard format for direct placement along active runs. Lightweight, reusable and easy to set, these work best in locations where access by children, pets or non-target animals is not a concern.

Enclosed snap traps and stations — snap traps housed inside a protective box or tunnel. The enclosure increases rat entry rates by mimicking a sheltered through-route, and keeps the mechanism concealed from non-target contact. Placement and Use

Rats travel along edges rather than open ground, making wall lines, fence bases and the perimeter of sheds and garages the most productive trap locations. Set traps flush against a surface with the trigger end facing the wall, and use multiple traps in active areas to increase catch rates. Snap traps should be checked daily and reset promptly — a sprung trap left in place stops working and may deter further activity at that point.
