Description
Slugs and snails move by producing a layer of mucus beneath their bodies. When that mucus contacts copper, a mild galvanic reaction creates an unpleasant sensation that discourages them from crossing the surface. This 20mm self-adhesive copper tape creates the widest barrier, making it significantly harder for even large slugs to arch their bodies over the copper surface.
The copper foil conducts on both sides, so slugs encounter the same deterrent whether approaching from above or below. The adhesive backing bonds securely to clean, dry surfaces including timber, plastic, metal and painted wood.
The wider format is designed for areas with high slug pressure or valuable crops, such as raised vegetable beds, cold frames or greenhouse staging. While the barrier is more visible than narrower tapes, it provides the most robust protection where slug damage would be costly.
Apply the tape along the top edge of raised bed walls, greenhouse staging or cold frame bases. Clean surfaces first with methylated spirit or similar to ensure strong adhesion. Over time the copper will naturally darken but will continue to function as a deterrent.
Key Features:
Wide copper slug barrier — creates a large surface that slugs avoid crossing
Double-sided conductivity — works regardless of approach direction
Self-adhesive backing — bonds to wood, plastic, metal and painted surfaces
Maximum width protection — wider barrier helps deter larger slugs
Weather-resistant copper foil — suitable for long-term outdoor use
