Description

Slugs and snails move by producing a layer of mucus beneath their bodies. When that mucus contacts copper, a mild galvanic reaction creates an unpleasant sensation that discourages them from crossing the surface. This 5mm self-adhesive copper tape forms a continuous barrier around pot rims, raised beds and greenhouse staging to help protect plants from slug and snail damage.

The narrow width makes the tape ideal for wrapping around curved surfaces such as plant pots, containers and small decorative features without creasing. Despite its slim profile, the copper foil conducts on both sides, so slugs receive the same deterrent whether approaching from above or below.

The adhesive backing bonds securely to clean, dry surfaces including terracotta, plastic, wood and metal. Once applied, the tape remains in place outdoors and the copper naturally develops a darker patina over time without affecting performance.

This width works best on pots, planters and containers up to around 40cm diameter, where you want a discreet barrier that does not dominate the appearance of the container. For larger beds or areas with heavier slug pressure, the wider tapes provide a more substantial obstacle.

Apply the tape along the top edge of raised bed walls, greenhouse staging or cold frame bases. Clean surfaces first with methylated spirit or similar to ensure strong adhesion.
